2013 Hoopes Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
“Although clearly not the newest member of the pack, our Oakville estate wine seriously impresses in 2013. Our flagship wine is, and always has been, the soul of our farm. Crafted from our ten-acre vineyard in the heart of Oakville, which was planted by my father, Spencer Hoopes, in 1983, it was previously a fruit source for a number of famous estates. The volcanic soil here is rare in the Oakville sub-appellation and is almost never present in valley floor vineyards. We harvest this vineyard in fourteen small batches, despite the small size, to ensure the perfect balance of acid, flavor, and tannins.”

“True elegance. Intense floral aromas with a lovely purity of cassis fruit. It is lean, sleek and lifted with great poise. There is an immeccable balance here, with no element in excess.” SB 95
“Deliciously intense nose and palate full of violets and blackcurrant pastilles. This wine has generous body and alcohol but is holding in a ripe Napa Style that will certainly see out the next few years.” RS 96

93 points, Wine Enthusiast (August 2016)
“This is sophisticated stuff that lives up to Oakville's reputation. It tastes rich and alluring from the first whiff of black currant and espresso to the ultrasmooth mouthfeel and elegant finish. Think extra-fine tannins, opulent currant, dark chocolate and black cherry flavors. Enjoy it now or save through 2023 to encourage even more bouquet.”

90 points, Wine Advocate - issue 222 (December 2015)
“The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville, which spent more time in French oak, and is more expensive, has an inkier ruby/purple color, slightly more fruitcake, spice box, juicy blackcurrant fruit, a medium to full body, excellent purity, subtle new oak and an attractive lushness and velvety character. It should drink well for at least 10 to 15 years.”

Tasting Notes
“Sitting dense and visually pretty in the glass, fresh aromas of plum, prune, bay, dried flowers, and aromatic spices of clove and cardamom sit above a muscular core of cedar, leather, and earth. A sweet and supple entry upon first sip deepens to a rich, full palate of quality tannins, and dense and concentrated fruit. The wine finishes with cocoa and espresso notes, biscuit and dark chocolate.”
